To use or not to use Facebook hashtags?

Are you sure you need to use hashtags on Facebook? When I analyze a hotel’s page in various consultations, one of the things I notice is the hashtags in the posts published on Facebook. As a Social Media Marketer, I have a strong allergy to hashtags on Facebook.

But let’s go through things in order.

1. Automatic sharing from Instagram: Every social network has its own characteristics. Facebook isn’t that social that loves Instagram. We leave Instagram to do what it does.

2. To highlight words that make the concept clear.

3. Because you think you’re grabbing the reader’s attention

Although there is no general rule, I can tell you this: A study found that hashtags lower visibility, not to mention that they don’t increase it.

A compromise of one or two is reasonable. As the number of hashtags increases, i.e. the words before the hashtag, the interaction with the post decreases. Online reading is, among other things, very annoying. Instead, it should be simplified as much as possible. Hashtags disperse attention.

As marketers, only one thing counts: do they improve the performance of the posts? Let’s move forward. During one of my consultations or in one of the workshops I asked: How many of you get up in the morning, open the Facebook app, see a post, and click on the hashtag found in any caption? According to me, no one, because it is not as spontaneous as it could be in Instagram or on another social media site, like Twitter. Why wouldn’t the hashtag on Facebook increase the visibility? Everyone has a personal profile, mine for example has no restrictions. Since the majority of Facebook profiles are private, the posts published on them can only be seen by friends, for example, the chances of extending reach by using hashtags are low. Ever considered it?

Each organization, company can have a hashtag that represents itself. People can add it to their posts and we can see it or add it because we want the user to recognize certain social initiatives. When, how, and why should they be used? Here are some tips

1. Use hashtags sparingly on Facebook – one to two at most, and only if they are branded hashtags I mentioned earlier

2. However, you should test them in your posts

3. No to the hashtag train like there is no tomorrow

4. No hashtags in published posts at random

In short, they can be used sparingly. When in doubt, don’t use them.
